Our annual Harvest Thanksgiving service is on Sunday 5 October. It is also Fellowship Sunday and we will be celebrating 40 years of Metropolitan Community Churches! As always, you are asked to bring along your gifts of fresh produce, food and goods to decorate the church with – all of which will later be taken to the Julian House night shelter.
MCC’s Regional Conference (Region 4) will take place in Birmingham from 6-9 November. This is a gathering of people from the churches in our region and offers worship, workshops and a chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Anyone can go – it’s not just for leaders – so if you think you might be interested, keep an eye on the fellowship website at www.mccchurch.org for more information about hotel bookings and conference registration forms. Hard copy registration forms are available at church. If you don’t want to take part in the whole weekend, day registration is available on site. Mike has taken on the responsibility and challenge of coordinating the worship for conference so that may act as an incentive for those of you who are still undecided!
Please not that Kieren will be on leave of absence from 29 September to 20 October.
Full information about our church life and activities can be found at www.mccbath.org.uk.
Our annual service to mark World Aids Day will be on Sunday 30 November. The theme continues to be Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise, and 2008 again looks at leadership and what it means for governments, health authorities and individuals to be leaders in the fight against Aids. This service also gives us a chance to remember lost loved ones and to emphasise our solidarity with those within our communities who may be living with HIV.
This year the WAD community candle lighting gathering and procession takes place on Thursday 27 November, starting at 7.30pm at Holy Trinity, just off Queen Square, Bath.
Our Remembrance Sunday service will be on 9 November. We may have a special guest preacher from Good Hope MCC visiting us, but this has yet to be confirmed.
Our Annual Congregational Meeting is on Sunday 26 October starting at 3.30pm. This is an opportunity for us to reflect on the work of the past year and to see how it shapes up to our overall vision and ongoing commitments to ministry and outreach. Everyone is very welcome to attend. Tea and cake will be served prior to the meeting, from 3.00pm. Copies of the annual report are available at church along with a nomination form for anyone interested in holding a position on the church council. Any additional matters for the agenda need to be with a church council member no later than Sunday 5 October in accordance with our constitution.
The income for July was £1129.70 and the expenditure was £718.08. In August the income was £812.27 and the expenditure was £755.19. At the end of August our account balance was £4246.82. The Community Tithe in August raised £32.80 for GayWest and in September £61 was raised for Alabare Christian Care Centres which provide services for the homeless and disadvantaged in Wiltshire.
Our annual collecting for Operation Christmas Child has begun and we have five to six weeks to collect toys, toiletries, stationery, hats, scarves, socks, gloves and hard sweets. Please remember that all gifts need to be new and a suitable size to fit into a shoebox.
Dear God, we pray for balance and exchange. Balance us like trees. As the roots of a tree shall equal its branches so must the inner life be equal to the outer life. And as the leaves shall nourish the roots so shall the roots give nourishment to the leaves. Without equality and exchange of nourishment there can be no growth and no love. Amen. Michael Leunig
